The Amazon ―the longest and largest river in the world― originates in the Andes Mountains in Peru and flows through Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, French Guiana, Suriname and Venezuela.

The Nile ―the longest river in Africa and the second longest in the world after the Amazon― flows through 11 countries in a south-north direction: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Eritrea.

The Congo River ―the deepest river in the world― originates in Zambia, between lakes Tanganyika and Malawi, and flows through the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, western Zambia, northern Angola, Cameroon and Tanzania. It is considered one of the most dangerous rivers because of its large gorges and waterfalls.

The Niger River ―the third longest river in Africa― rises in Guinea Conakry. It passes through Guinea, Mali, Niger, Benin and Nigeria.

The Zambezi River rises in Zambia, on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola. It crosses Angola, Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mozambique.

The Danube rises in Germany. It passes through Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Kosovo. It is the second longest river in Europe, after the Volga River.

The Rhine River ―one of the most important waterways in Western Europe― originates in Switzerland. It flows through Germany, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria and the Netherlands.

The Volga is the longest and largest river in Europe, but it only flows through one country: Russia.
